Ionisation Chambers
Ionisation
chambers have excellent long term stability of calibration and long operating
life times, making them ideal dose rate monitors. Centronic ion chambers
are often used for environmental area monitors, with dose rates as low
as 1µR/hr being measured. Conversely dose rates in excess of 107
R/hr can also be determined.
Centronic ion chambers are also available fitted with a re-entrant tube, which can pass through the entire length of the chamber. Therefore radioactive material can be placed within the ion chamber, allowing accurate measurement of radiation does rate. Making this type of ion chamber particularly suitable for dispensing of radioactive isotopes.
